Important updates to the FCE (dedicated to my beloved students).

Before I go into details, I would like to assure all of you that those changes are for best :) although I can already hear my students complaining about the length of the written assessment. The minimum of required words has been increased to 140 ....oh well :) not a big deal.

1. READING and USE of ENGLISH are now ONE part. There are 7 instead of 8 parts (one reading part has been deleted!). 

There are going to be the following:

USE of ENGLISH

i) multiple choice cloze

ii) open cloze

iii) word formation

iv) key word formation (called by me: sentence transformation)

READING

v) multiple choice 

vi) gapped text

vii) multiple matching

2. WRITING (140-190) 

Now, the minimum word count is 140 and the maximum is 190. Do not write a single word more! You have to make between those numbers. 

 a) Compulsory subject will be ESSAY (it does have its specific form, it is not just any kind of written assessment)

b) In the second part of writing, you can choose between: a letter, an article, a review and again an essay.

c) Set text will regard the following book: The Eagle of the Ninth 

What does it mean? If you want, you can read it right before the exam and be sure that one of the subjects will regard this title :) 

3. SPEAKING-  pictures only in part 2!!! (I can see your happy faces.)

Instead of pictures to describe (part 3), there will be written prompts to discuss them. (Important: you have got to mention each idea presented and choose one with you partner = get to an agreement :) 

4. LISTENING (no changes whatsoever) hurray!!!! :)
